On San Francisco’s Folsom street in the Mission district there is a place where women from all kinds of backgrounds make food and start businesses. The place is called La Cocina and one of the women is Eji Atlaw. She makes Ethiopian food that she sells at events and through a website called good eggs, which delivers food from small businesses like Eji’s throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
La Cocina helps Eji with every part of her business, including logo design, bookkeeping and providing a place for her to work.
Eji also does catering and cooking courses, but despite this she is not yet able to live on the earnings from her business alone. Recently though, Wholefoods has expressed an interest in selling her food.
